- Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Fellowships
BIF provides travel fellowships for visits to different institutes to learn about complementary skills that can benefit ongoing research projects.
- Company of Biologists Ltd., Travelling Fellowships
The Company of Biologists offers fellowships of up to £2500 for graduate students and post-docs to make visits to international laboratories. Awards are made through the CoB's four international journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science, The Journal of Experimental Biology, and Disease Models and Mechanisms. Fellows must be working in the field of the journal to which the application is made. Applicants from all nations are eligible.
- Council for International Exchange of Scholars, Fulbright Scholar Programs
Administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, Fulbright programs send hundreds of U.S. faculty and professionals abroad, and bring hundreds of non-U.S. faculty and professionals to the U.S. to conduct research, give lectures, and participate in scholarly events aimed toward fostering international collaboration. Several different Fulbright programs exist with specific aims and eligibilities. Information is available directly from the Fulbright Commission, or the public affairs section of the U.S. Embassy.
- Human Frontier Science Program, Grants and Fellowships
The HFSP awards research grants to groups of investigators from different countries who seek to combine their expertise and facilities in research. Preference is granted to new collaborations which are interdisciplinary; all groups must be international.
The HFSP also awards several fellowships supporting international research. Long-term Fellowships support up to three years of postdoctoral training in an international laboratory. Cross-disciplinary Fellowships are similar to the Long-term Fellowships but are aimed at supporting biology training for fellows holding a Ph.D. in the physical sciences, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, or computer science. Short-term Fellowships support international work lasting from two weeks to three months.
- The James S. McDonnell Foundation
JSMF is initiating a new postdoctoral fellowship opportunity in the area of Complex Systems research. The JSMF Fellowships are intended to provide students in the final stages of completing a PH.D. degree additional leeway in identifying and securing postdoctoral training opportunities in complex systems research (as defined on the JSMF website www.jsmf.org/programs/cs).
NOTE: JSMF Postdoctoral Fellowships in Complex Systems are not intended for students who have
already identified a postdoctoral position and a postdoctoral research mentor. The JSMF fellowships
are intended for students still at the stage of identifying potential postdoctoral positions. JSMF
intends the fellowship program to help students seek potential postdoctoral training based on their
scientific interests and the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills.
- The Lewis-Sigler Fellows Program at Princeton University
This program
provides opportunities to a few exceptional individuals who are expecting or have recently obtained a Ph.D. degree in areas relevant to modern quantitative biology, including biologically relevant physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics or engineering.
Applications should be submitted online using Req #0110374. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a short description of their research interests, and contact information for three references. The review process will begin by November 1, 2011; applications should be received by that date for full consideration.
- U.S. National Science Foundation, Developing Global Scientists and Engineers
The National Science Foundation of the United States supports international research conducted by U.S. students through two Developing Global Scientists and Engineers programs. An International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program supports groups of U.S. undergraduate or graduate students who collaborate with foreign investigators in research conducted abroad. A Doctoral Dissertation Enhancement Program supports dissertation work of single doctoral students, when conducted abroad and in collaboration with a foreign investigator.
- U.S. National Science Foundation, International Planning Visits and Workshops
International Planning Visit/Workshop Awards provide funding for travel, and are intended to support development of research and education activities with foreign researchers. Eligible activities include visits to potential research facilities and discussions with potential partners to finalize research plans, or workshops to determine research plans. NSF expects that grantees will apply for support for the resultant collaborative research.
- U.S. National Science Foundation, International Research Fellowship Program
The IRFP aims to expose researchers early in their careers to opportunities for international and collaborative research. Support is for residence abroad for 9 to 24 months, with a minimum of 9 continuous months abroad.
- U.S. National Science Foundation, Travel Grants for NATO Advanced Study Institutes
The NSF awards graduate students and postdocs up to $1,000 for travel to attend Advanced Study Institutes, hosted primarily by member countries in Europe, sponsored by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
- German Research Foundation, Initiation and Intensification of Bilateral Cooperation
The German Research Foundation awards funding for up to one year to German scientists seeking to begin or improve international collaborative research. Funds may be used for visits of up to three months either to the German or international institution, events, and travel expenses.
- German Research Foundation, Specialist Conferences
The German Research Foundation’s "International Events" funding instrument supports organization of specialist conferences each covering a closely defined, specialized topic of high quality. Such conferences should convene international participants, and researchers responsible for organizing the conferences are eligible to submit proposals.
- German Research Foundation, International Conferences, Congresses and Symposia
The German Research Foundation awards funding to support international events which occur at regular intervals in different countries, and include many German and international participants. Funds may be used to support event activities and amounts are based on the number of participants at the event.
